Overview

In March of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic brought nearly every individual’s life to an abrupt halt for an undisclosed amount of time.
We may finally see family members and friends and meet with our communities again without these huge stipulations.

However, with the introduction of vaccines comes several questions about them. We hope to answer these questions and equip you with all the information you need to make the best decision for you and your family!

Which Vaccine?

Most individuals get a notification to schedule an appointment. When they do so, they fill out a vaccine questionnaire that is similar to one that you fill out before getting a flu shot. When you arrive, you get signed in and get your shot.

The vaccine takes 20 seconds to administer. Once you get the shot, they give you a card that has the date and type of vaccine you received–Pfizer or Moderna on it.

Then they use a timer to monitor you for at least 15 minutes afterward just in case you were to have a rare allergic reaction while you’re there.

Fiqh of Vaccination

Recent research showed more than 40% of Texans were either unsure or unlikely to accept a COVID-19 vaccine, including 22% who said they definitely aren’t getting the vaccine.

On top of this, there are so many Muslims in our community who are unwilling or hesitant to get vaccinated against COVID and other illnesses. Which route do we take and is it OK to differ when it comes to public health?

Join Imam Dr. Waleed Basyouni, Imam of Clear Lake Islamic Center, and Imam Dr. Basem Hamid, Founder of Wasat Institute as we have a discussion on the fiqh behind vaccinations and their relevance from an Islamic perspective.
